"WHEN ALL ELSE FAILS - AMATEUR RADIO WORKS"

The Webster County Amateur Radio Emergency Service, comprised of active  members of the American Radio Relay League, Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) and the Fort Dodge Interagency Disaster Planning Committee, consists of federally licensed, National Weather Service, FEMA and ARECC  trained amateurs operators who have voluntarily registered their qualifications and equipment for communications duty in the public service when disaster strikes.

Every licensed amateur operator, regardless of membership in the ARRL or any other local or national organization, is eligible for membership in our ARES emergency response group. The only qualification, other than possession of an Amateur Radio license, is a sincere desire to serve. Because WCARES is an amateur service, only amateurs are eligible for membership. As Webster County ARES operates under the Incident Command System, operators are strongly advised to train under NIMS and FEMA and to receive additional training through the ARECC.

The Webster County ARES works directly with the Webster County Emergency Management Agency and is activated solely through this agency when disaster strikes.
